India’s first Metro rail manufacturing facility was designed by Shah & Talati
for Bombardier Transportation India.
This was a very large scale project on an area of approximately 100 acres with more than 40000 sqm of construction area. The project consisted of manufacturing facilities for Boggies, Car body, Assembly and testing. his was a fabricated structure from standard sections using welding and bolting to suit the design. Since the steel prices were all time high in 2007 a castellated section was adopted to achieve the necessary economics in the structure. A railway siding was also facilitated by S&T with the main Mumbai Delhi Railway line to transport the manufactured metro coaches. The project consisted of 66 kv switchyard, testing facility with water shower facility and over head DC line. Subsequent to Bombardier becoming part of Alstom India Transportation, S&T has been involved in design of 25 KV over head DC line for testing of the current metro coaches.
